On the night of September 15, 2011, Catherine Hernandez was once again welcomed to the stage of Kapisanan to perform her one woman play Eating with Lola as a fundraising performance. The play portrayed a beautiful and inspiring story of a Lola and we, the audience, were all lucky enough to have seen the play where it all started, at Kapisanan. Catherine Hernandez presented a very convincing performance which definitely caught the audience’s attention.

You Were Missed At… Daps All-Ages VII

Two Saturdays ago, the Kapisanan Centre welcomed music, grilled cheese, candy, doodling boards, and all of the neighbourhood youngin’s for a fun all-ages event known as Daps VII!

Started by Daniel and April aka Daps Duo from Hooded Fang, the seasonal concerts invite everyone between the ages of 0 and 150+ to hang out and listen to a great line of local bands play. Saturday’s artists/bands included The Grapefruit ColourIsla CraigMirror Phase, and Loom.

Kapisanan’s First Summer Yard Sale!

You never know what kind of treasures you’ll find!

When I was young — well, younger, my mama would always tell me, “Brian anak, remember: One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.”

This got me thinking, “Who is this man and why is he picking up garbage?”

So on summer weekends my mama and I would walk around the neighbourhood looking for lucky pennies or yard sales. I always found myself digging into either collectors items (i.e. trading cards, dolls or action figures) or antiques.

It’s Summer @ the K!

New Season. New Rules.

…new business hours, as a matter of fact. Adjust your schedules, KAPISANAN is opening on an adjusted SUMMER SCHEDULE!

Our hours have now changed to Wednesday and Thursday from 12-8pm, or by appointment. Don’t worry, this just means more brainstorming time for our artistic Filipino community!

Now, because it’s summer and we know you guys love us so much, if you guys are in the area feel free to stop by and check out Kapisanan’s pop-up shop graduate, Pretty Freedom.

Also, our new jewellery pop-up shop resident It’s Your Life Handmade is open Tuesday to Sunday from 12-6pm. You’d be surprised on how talented these guys are, tell Nicole and Alvaro we sent you.;)
