JUNIOR Coordinator Program

Are you interested in getting involved with Kapisanan? We have three exciting spring-summer opportunities for youth to connect with the community, explore career options, and gain valuable experience with a vibrant and growing professional organization!

The Junior Coordinator Program at Kapisanan is a volunteer internship that allows young people and emerging professionals to focus their volunteer hours into acquiring and enhancing skills while working under the direction of professional mentors. Kapisanan Junior Coordinator positions include: Marketing and Communications/Public Relations, Communication Design, Video Production, Arts Administration, Event Planning, and Arts Programs.

We are seeking dynamic, committed young people who have

  • Keen interest or some background in the arts and cultural production
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Strong communication skills, oral and written
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Packages (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
  • Some knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), though we are willing to train
  • Adept in using social maedia, i.e., Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Tumblr
  • Access to a car is an asset

Event Planning Junior Coordinator

REPORTS TO

Kapisanan Staff: Executive Director, Programs Manager, Festival Director and Lead Festival Coordinator

The Event Planning Junior Coordinator(s) will work alongside the Marketing & Communications Junior Coordinator and the Kapisanan Video Production Team.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

Kapisanan is seeking volunteer coordinator(s) for its Event Planning team. The Event Planning Junior Coordinator(s) will participate in all aspects of planning, coordinating, and mounting Kapisanan's 11th Annual KULTURA Filipino Arts Festival. The coordinator(s) will play a key role in the planning of Kapisanan's signature and community-partnered events.

Kapisanan has several large scale events planned in the upcoming months with an expected attendance of around 200-250 people each. During this program you will have the opportunity to gain experience in the field and enhance your skills while working under the direction of professional  mentors.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO

  • Producing detailed proposals for events (e.g. timelines, venues, suppliers, legal obligations, staffing, budgets)
  • Securing and booking a suitable venue or location
  • Coordinating venue management, caterers, contractors, equipment hire, etc.
  • Organizing facilities for traffic control, security, first aid, hospitality, and the media
  • Identifying and securing speakers or special guests
  • Planning room layouts and the entertainment programming, scheduling workshops, and demonstrations
  • Coordinating staffing requirements and staff briefings
  • Selling sponsorship/stand/exhibition space to potential exhibitors/partners
  • Complete all tasks in a timely fashion with high quality of work
  • Carry out all responsibilities in a professional, timely, and effective manner
  • Perform any other duties and carry out any other requests as directed

MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS JUNIOR COORDINATOR

Kapisanan Staff: Executive Director, Programs Manager, and Festival Director

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

Kapisanan is seeking volunteer coordinator(s) for its Marketing & Communications team. Marketing & Communications Junior Coordinator(s) will play a key role in the overall public relations efforts of Kapisanan. The position provides a learning experience during which the M&C Junior Coordinator(s) participate in all aspects of planning and coordinating marketing, promotions, and outreach for all Kapisanan programming, events, and projects. During this program you will have the opportunity to gain experience in the field and enhance your skills while working under the direction of professional mentors.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO

  • Assists in writing and distribution of press releases, media advisories, and other internal and external communication material
  • Assist in drafting, editing, and distributing marketing collateral materials—this includes copy for newsletters, website, flyers, brochures, as well as spotlight videos, and other media presentations
  • Assist in overseeing branding to refine and strengthen Kapisanan and Kultura identity and image
  • Assist in identifying corporate partners through sponsorship, special events and other cause-related marketing and development opportunities
  • Communicate regularly with Executive Director and Festival Director on the status of the tasks assigned
  • Liaising with Marketing and PR to promote the event
  • Complete all tasks in a timely fashion with high quality of work
  • Carry out all responsibilities in a professional, timely, and effective manner
  • Perform any other duties and carry out any other requests as directed

Communication Design Junior Coordinator

REPORTS TO

Kapisanan Staff: Executive Director, Programs Manager, and Design Director

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

Kapisanan is seeking Communication Design Junior Coordinator(s) to work with Kapisanan's Marketing and Communications team and Event Planning Team. This program provides a learning experience during which Junior Coordinator(s) participate in all aspects of designing creative elements in a professional design studio and producing material for the marketing, promotions, and outreach for all Kapisanan programming, events, and projects. During this program you will have the opportunity to gain experience in the field and enhance your skills while working under the direction of professional mentors.

This is a unique opportunity for you to gain invaluable design experience, as well as develop marketing and communication skills within a growing cultural organization and professional design studio.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO

  • Assists in designing creative elements and typesetting for projects (print, web, and branding)
  • Basic web updates
  • Assist in client communications for Design Director: 1) prepare invoices 2) prepare quotes/proposal documents 3) write e-mails 4) make calls 5) filing
  • Source stock photography/illustrations/fonts
  • Photo editing i.e. silhouetting (close-cropping), colour correction, re-sizing, re-touching
  • Prepare digital files for pre-press (printing)
  • Researching, compiling and organizing data (this could include researching clients' market competition, obtaining quotes from printers, photographers, etc., sourcing imagery for reference, etc.)
  • Design work to support Kapisanan's Marketing and Event Planning teams
  • Communicate regularly with Kapisanan's Executive Director, Programs Manager, and Design Director on the status of tasks assigned
