Featuring: Joee & I Pantayo Kulintang Ensemble PSL Collective 2014
June 4, 2014 Wednesday 7pm @ KAPISANAN (167 Augusta) $5 PWYC
Join us at Kapisanan for a night of performances, with a little bit of audience interaction in the mix. Between performances, there is an opportunity for the artists and the audience to interact, to talk about the performers' artistic process & inspirations. For this special evening, we are featuring talent from across the Filipino Diaspora:
Joee & I is an avant-pop electronica solo project of Joee Mejias, a musician and video artist from Manila. Fresh off of her appearance at the One Man Band Festival in Montreal, she comes to Toronto to share her unique brand of electronic music infused with flavourful instruments she's picked up along her musical journey.
Pantayo Kulintang Ensemble is an all-women musical collective, with their music grounded in traditional kulintang music of the Maguindanaon and T'boli peoples of the Philippine, but explores the possibility of kulintang music influenced by their identities as diasporic Filipinas. They have just recently shared the stage with Filipino singer & culture bearer Grace Nono at her first ever performance in Toronto.
The PSL Collective is a group of young Filipino poets who have gathered together from Kapisanan's Poetry is our Second Language Program, facilitated by National Champion Spoken Word Artist Patrick De Belen. Catch a glimpse of the pieces they've worked on so far!
And did we mention that there will be some ice cold San Miguel Beer to cool you down? We hope to see you there!
