WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

KAPISANAN is seeking an intern for the Vinta Retail Gallery. The Gallery Intern will play a key role in helping execute all projects of the gallery, and strengthen the gallery’s presence in the arts community. The Gallery Internship provides a learning experience during which the intern will actively participate in the day-to-day operations of the retail gallery, and in all aspects of planning, mounting and executing all Vinta Gallery exhibits.

During this program you will have an opportunity to gain experience in the workings of the retail gallery environment and enhance your skills while working under the direction of professional mentors. This is a great opportunity for you to gain invaluable experience in the visual arts and gallery sector with a vibrant and growing professional organization!

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: - Assisting with exhibits (liaising with artists, assisting in art installation, etc.) - Organizing opening receptions as necessary. - Giving tours of exhibits and being fully informed on artists and their work. - Staying in the retail gallery and monitoring incoming traffic. - Researching new artists and possible funders and grants for the gallery. - Promoting the gallery, the artists and upcoming events on social media websites. - Communicate regularly with Executive Director on the status of the tasks assigned. - Carry out all responsibilities in a professional, timely and effective manner with high quality of work. - Ability to work at least two full days (or the equivalent) in the Vinta Retail Gallery for a 6-month period.

WE ARE SEEKING A DYNAMIC, COMMITTED YOUNG PERSON WHO IS: - Has an active interest in contemporary art and the creative process. - Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills. - Creative problem-solver. - High attention to detail. - Highly motivated and is a self-starter. - Be organized, responsible and professional, with the ability to work independently and as a team member. - Good organizational and time-management skills; able to work under pressure and meet deadlines. - Keen interest or some background in the arts and culture production. - Some knowledge of Adobe CS4 (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), though we are willing to train.

Kapisanan Exhibits

Start date: mid June 2012

Work schedule: 2 days/week (or equivalent of) for a 6-month commitment. We are willing to work with a university or college to arrange academic credit or high school co-op placement.

THIS POSITION IS UNPAID – your payment is real world experience, mentorship of professionals, and/or co-op placement credit.
